Collections of tales, truths and histories – in the written form as books and libraries –promise the revelation of secrets, imaginative ideas and pathways to enlightenment. More than any other found object, the material form of the book has a uniquely complex resonance. The book-related motif therefore, whether literal or conceptual, offers artists countless possible layers of additional meaning. This exhibition draws on contemporary artists who use the motif to meaningful effect in their work.
Artists includes Chris Bond, Brigita Ozolins, William Kentridge, Deidre Brollo, Simryn Gill, Julie Gough, Stephen Goddard, Archie Moore, Patrick Pound, Ahn Wells and Cyrus Tang
